In an effort to give back to the community, the Scenic City Half Marathon and 5k features a special Charity Challenge. Local charities will participate in the Challenge. They are:
- Chambliss Center for Children
- Chattanooga Community Kitchen
- Chattanooga Room in the Inn
- Children's Advocacy Center for Hamilton County
- Girls on the Run
- McKamey Animal Center
- Special Olympics Tennessee Southeast Region
- YMCA of Chattanooga
Our Charities are a major part of making our event a success and we hope you will support them generously!
Supporting the Charities
Volunteers from the charities make up half of our race volunteers. They will assist with registration, packet pickup, water stop and aid stations, and many other duties. In return a portion of a participant's entry fee will be donated to the charity as selected by the participant ($7.50 from half marathon entries, $5.00 from 5k entries). If you would like to be a volunteer for one of our Charities, go to the Volunteer page and contact them.
Participants also have the opportunity to raise additional funds for the charity, if they choose, through the online fund raising system. During the online registration process participants will be asked to choose a charity to give a portion of their entry fee to as explained above. In addition an online fundraising page will be setup for each participant from which they can solicit additional donations for their selected charity. The person (runner, walker, volunteer, or individual) who fund raises the most money for his or her charity will receive a Charity Challenge award.
How Others Can Donate
Friends and family who would like to make a donation and help a runner, walker, volunteer, or fundraiser reach their goal can do so by going to the above Charity links. Use the search feature to find the person you are supporting. You also can make a donation without selecting a participant.
How to Become a Fundraiser
If you would like to fundraise on behalf of one of our Charities, you can do so by going to one of the above Charity links. You do not have to be a race participant or volunteer. You only have to have a desire to help out one of our Chattanooga Charities.
The Charity that has the most Half Marathon and 5K participants combined will receive an award. In addition, the Charity raising the most funds during the Scenic City Half Marathon/5K will be recognized with an award. And the top individual fundraiser for the entire event will receive an award. Awards will be calculated as of Wednesday, February 25 when online registration closes.
A $50 cash prize will be given to the best looking individual fundraising page. If you have created your own page and would like to participate in this contest please email the race director, Sherilyn Johnson (schDirector@chattanoogatrackclub.org), with your name.
